As an Asian woman who has grown up and lived in NZ for the last 20 years, I have come across multiple challenges. Some of these were internal, like how to defy family expectations of being a lawyer/accountant/engineer/doctor and how to have a fluid identity between being an Asian and a New Zealander. Other challenges were more external, like answering the question “Where are you really from?” and not seeing myself reflected in media or in the higher positions in corporates.
We have had our first hui on 17 July with huge success as we shared our internal and external challenges, and found solace in each other. A summary of our first hui here.
For this second event, we will concentrate on brainstorming solutions/experiments we can do to help the next generation of Asian women overcome these challenges and rise.
Is this event for you?
Yes, if you identify yourself as an Asian woman
