As an Asian woman who has grown up and lived in NZ for the last 20 years, I have come across multiple challenges. Some of these were internal, like how to defy family expectations of being a lawyer/accountant/engineer/doctor and how to have a fluid identity between being an Asian and a New Zealander. Other challenges were more external, like answering the question “Where are you really from?” and not seeing myself reflected in media or in the higher positions in corporates.

I would love to get a group of us together to discuss 1) what are and have been the internal and external challenges we have faced in western workplaces and 2) how can we help the next generation of Asian women to rise.

As this is the first time I am holding such an event, space will be limited to 15 Asian women. My current plan is to have this first event, then we will see what follows because we might arrive at some experiments we would like to try at the end of this event :)

Format:
10.30am - meet and greet
10.40am - with breakfast, in small groups, discuss the challenges Asian women face
11.10am - in small groups, brainstorm possible solutions or experiments to try
11.30am - discuss together where to from here
