Nurain Janah is a widely recognised woman of influence under 30s in NZ. She is a consultant, speaker and activist with a passion of creating a more equitable world. She does this by telling her story, mentoring young women of colour and influencing decision-makers through her governance and leadership roles.
Her more formal accolades are :
Finalist, Community & Non-Profit, Westpac New Zealand Women of Influence Awards 2017
New Zealand representative at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women 2017
one of four women National Presidents in the Asia Pacific region for Junior Chamber International Leadership Academy
Recipient, Waitematā Local Board Good Citizens Award 2016
She is a 1.5 generation Kiwi. She grew up in Auckland, having moved from the small island nation of the Maldives over a decade ago. She graduated with a Bachelors of Science from the University of Auckland and received her Masters in Accounting from the Auckland University of Technology. Despite having spent most of my life here, New Zealand constantly reminds her that she is not Kiwi. From her experience of the barriers and challenges that migrants, women of colour and young people face and also as an older sister, she wants to see a world where her sister and brother - and every sister and brother - can have all the opportunities they want and chase any dream they can, regardless of race, religion or any other factor.
She has founded Authenticity Aotearoa and been involved in various governance roles, such as Trustee of the UpsideDowns Education Trust and was appointed onto the International Advocacy Committee for Europe at the 2019 World Congress of over 160 countries.
Join us as we talk about how she has defined herself and become a role model for young women of colour!
